Michael Owen

Michael Owen is a media relations and external communications adviser with extensive experience working with executive teams, boards and public-facing organisations.

He is the founder and managing director of Owen Media Relations and provides senior advice on media relations, external communications and public issues, particularly in environments subject to scrutiny, transition or heightened risk. His work spans government, local government, infrastructure, industry bodies and the not-for-profit sector.

Before establishing Owen Media Relations, Michael spent more than 25 years as a journalist with major news organisations in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. He is an award-winning former political reporter and bureau chief, with deep experience in daily and breaking news and a strong understanding of how stories are developed under pressure.

Michael also teaches news writing at university level, maintaining close familiarity with contemporary newsroom practice, media ethics and reporting standards.
